There has been a lot of talk amongst the fishing fraternity over many many years about the RDR and the fact that it is not working properly.
It is talked about at our committee meetings and AGM's and along the river so at the May committee meeting of the SC Salmon Anglers it was moved that we send a letter to Central South Island Fish & Game pointing out our concerns.
The letter that was sent is below for you all to read along with a report about the meeting that Phil de Joux (as Chairman of the SC Salmon Anglers Assn), committee members and fishing anglers attended. This meeting was the Fish & Game meeting in which there was a representative from the RDR present.

Report of meeting with Fish & Game
A good turn out of committee members and anglers at the "Public Issues" forum of Fish & Game's meeting the other night, ensured that both Fish & Game councillors and RDR Management were made well aware about the depth of feeling over the loss of salmon smolt out through the Rangitata Diversion Race intake. The point was made that nothing positive has been achieved in preventing the loss of smolt since the Conversation Order on the Rangitata river eleven years ago. The meeting concluded with RDR Management agreeing that they need to do better and include river users more in the process. Fish and Game also agreed that progress could have been better. We all need to keep the pressure up on both of these bodies and take every opportunity to force them to produce results that salmon anglers are happy with. The committee will be watching closely and will keep anglers informed. Watch this space !
